The school rows by affiliation with the Star Boating Club. Rowing is not for you unless you like to be really fit and are prepared to attend all sessions regardless of the weather or the hour of the day. A quad cannot train with 3 rowers. Participants must be prepared to work at fitness all year and if you become a senior rower training for New Zealand championships is an intensive daily activity.
Rowing is not a recreational or social sport and it also incurs considerable costs – several hundred dollars and possibly up to $1000 in a year with travel and accommodation for training camp and regattas taken into account. Places are restricted and fees will not be paid until you are placed in a regular programme. .
Approximately 12 new rowers begin in September - October of each year, mostly from the junior school. Watch the daily notices & sports notice board in Term 3 for trial information.
